Preparing for a strike

UTLA is preparing materials with detailed information on how to survive financially during a strike. Members will be able to apply for loans from our NEA or AFT affiliates if the strike goes more than 10 days. UTLA will guarantee your loans. While the strike in 1989 lasted about 9 days, it is a good idea to save enough money to last a month. The more we stick together the shorter the strike will be. If we get a 15% raise you could miss 27 days of a 180 day school year and make the same amount of money      ( .15 x 180 = 27). The best way to avoid a strike is to be prepared for one. Regardless of whether or not there is a strike, it is a good idea to be prepared in case of any emergencies.

UTLA has always included a provision in every contract, that was approved after a strike, to insure that the District will not punish anyone for supporting the strike. It is also against the law to be fired for being on strike.
