Everyone who cares about improving the quality of education for the children of our communities can make a big difference with only a small effort. Everyone knows the impact that a quality experienced teacher can have in a child’s education. Many Substitute Teachers in the L.A. Unified School District have spent many years learning to master classroom management and other skills that are unique to the task of filing in for absent Contract Teachers.
Unfortunately due to recent changes in the budget, decisions were made to give most of the substitute jobs to the recently laid-off probationary teachers by assigning these new teachers higher seniority . We all need to work together to increase funding for education in order to lower class size and rehire the probationary teachers. However, until that happens we must ensure that the most experienced qualified teachers are in the student’s classrooms where ever and whenever possible! Please take a moment to let your School Board Member know that our children deserve the very best we can give them!
